Fraser Island is world famous for 4WD Australia adventures but it has fallen victim to its fame. Thousands of 4WD adventurers have carved deep into the islands sandy tracks sometimes giving the 4WD visitor a feeling of tunnel driving. The main beach, although still impressive has eroded badly. I love Fraser Island. I have stopped going there until things change.
We want to see no more beach driving and traffic put on sealed roads – unfortunately ending all 4WD adventures. My tip to the 4WD Australia adventurer - stay away, as hard as it may be - to help save Fraser. Demand that Fraser Island is properly managed before it is too late. If you do go to Fraser Island, make sure you visit well outside the Australian holiday seasons, particularly in December and early January. I am sure you will agree that a 4WD adventure is not about being in a traffic jam...
