Offer - Gibraltar Range 4WD Adventure

The area between Tenterfield, Grafton and Casino contains a number of fine four wheel driving tracks and camping is usually permitted along those 4WD tracks. The Gibraltar Range is clearly the finest 4WD adventure spots in the area and a great weekend 4Wd destination.During dry weather the road conditions are usually good enought to bring along your offroad camper trailer into the area but you need to check the weather situation before heading off. The area has heavy clay soil which gets very slippery when heavy rains set in. The best approach to this fantastic 4WD destination is via the Bruxner Highway turning off between Casino and Tenterfield. You can also access it from the Graften side turning off the Summerland highway.Bring enough supplies as there are no shopping facilities at the 2 official camp grounds. One is a former forestry camp - the Ewingar Forest camp and the other is the Washpool NP rest area. There are no camping fees and both camping grounds offer the 4WD enthusiast toilets and BBQ facilities.4WD visitors regularly report fallen trees and logs blocking the 4WD paths. Particularly after heavy rainfall, branches blocking the 4WD tracks are a regular occurrence. It is a great idea to bring a tool like an ax to be able to clear the path in front of you. happy 4WDriving!!

Formed in 1976 by a small group of local enthusiasts, the Club has since grown, in both membership and activities. The Club has a mixture of members from the "youngsters (of all ages) who have just bought their first 4WD, through the "young couples" who enjoy both the bushlands and the Club environment up to the "family" groups where everyone can get away from it all for the weekend. While we are all individuals, we share a common interest...to use our 4WDs to enjoy what these great outdoors can offer. We believe the Club provides the ideal venue to satisfy this objective. As a foundation member of the state Association and National Council of 4WD Clubs, we are actively promoting and protecting four wheel driving as a responsible form of recreation. We enjoy a close cooperative relationship with National Parks, the local Councils and other Land Manager organizations.Visit our website

Offer - Go Bush 4WD club

Go Bush 4WD club (inc) was formed in October 2004, by a group of 6 four-wheel-driving enthusiasts. The club was incorporated on 4th Feb 2005 (registration number A1012031K). All but 1 of these founding members are still in the club, and 2 are still on the committee, as detailed on our Honour Board. The aim of this club is to create a small club of family oriented people, who enjoy going recreational 4WDing and camping, as a means of an escape from today's busy lifestyles. Our key goals in the club are to make it as casual as possible, meaning very few meetings, and the meetings themselves should be primarily a social function, with the official business taking up only a small portion of the time. To go 4WDing and camping with a minimum of political fuss, making it really just a way of formalising a group of friends going out on a social camping trip. A means of us all sharing ideas / parts / tips etc with a bunch of like minded individuals.Visit our website

Offer - The Border Ranges National Park by 4WD

This excellent 4WD destination is accessible all year round unless there has been big rains. Inform yourself locally before setting off. The rain season is from january to march. The Border Ranges are a world heritage listed rainforest remnant on the edge of an ancient volcano system. The ranges neighbour the just as fantastic 4WD destination Lamington National Park in Queensland. The Border Ranges National Park are part of the largest volcano caldera in the southern hemisphere. In the same caldera is the McPhersons range, the Nightcap National Park and the Springbrook Plateau. When heading into the area, bring warm clothes as you are up in higher altitude and the weather can quickly turn cold. Most 4WD tracks are spectacular but not particularly demanding. Bring your walking gear as there are plenty of trails you do not want to miss. The Eastern Part of the Border RangesThe eastern part of the Border Ranges is the most accessible to 4WD vehicles and motorists. Start with the spectacularly scenic drive along the Tween Range to give you an impressive view of the park. The road is very steep, do not attempt to tackle it with trailers. We recommend to stop at the Sheep Station Creek camping area and set off on foot for the Booyong walk which takes you to the Forest Tops area. There is plenty of other walks to enjoy. Forest Tops is another place you can camp and it is accessible by road, not just walking trail.Next we recommend the Brindle creek hiking trail which takes you the the Northern lookout where you can see across the QLD border into Lamington National Park. There is plenty of other short and longer walks in the area. Stop for the Tweed valley Lookout which is amongst the most spectacular viewpoints on the Tweed Range route. Don't miss out on the Pinnacle Lookout another short walk off the track. You will have an excellent view onto Mount Warning and the nearby coast of Tweed Heads. There is plenty more to see on this scenic drive with more picnic areas and walking trails along the way.The Central Part of the Border RangesTo get to the central part you arrive by Lions Road turning off the Kyogle to Woodenbong Road about 20km north of Kyogle. In case you come from Brisbane to your Border Ranges 4WD adventure we suggest the very scenic and idyllic route via Rathdowney down south to Woodenbong. Starting point outside of Ipswich or South of Beaudesert. There is only one picnic area along the Lions road - the Border Loop Picnic Area just after passing the QLD border, however there is plenty of facilities and restaurants further into NSW. You want to stop at the Border Loop Picnic area for the view onto the famous loop railway and the simply stunning vista. The Western Park of the Border RangesThis area is only accessible by foot and very remote indeed. More than a 4WD destination it is real hiking adventure country. You can take in the skyline of the area by driving along the Kyogle to Woodenbong Road passing the spectacular Mount Lindesay. No accommodation is available anywhere within the Border Ranges National park so unless you plan to camp at Forest Tops or Sheepstation Creek you will have to return to one of the closeby town centres liket Kyogle or Murwillumbah. No park entry or camping fees need to be payed.

Offer - Barrington Tops State Forest

The Barrington Tops National park is no longer reachable by any vehicle. The Barrington Tops state forest however is an incredible 4WD destination high up on the plateau north of the National Park. The State forest boast excellent facilities and plenty of camping spots for the 4WD adventurer and the area is a preferred weekend destination for Newcastle locals. Once of the best camping spots is on the Cobark River which also is among the ones with the best facilities. Polblue camping area is also particularly popular amongst 4WD fans. The scenery is particularly spectacular and there is an abundance of 4WD tracks you can explore. The area is particularly popular during hot summer days because the high plateau is much cooler and offers relief. However in winter it is not uncommon to find a bit of snow up here. Even when visiting in summer you should come prepared for a possible cold spell and pack some good cold weather gear into your 4WD. Top up on fuel too to get you through your 4WD weekend. There is plenty of wildlife in the area including the elusive platypus. Plenty of trout if you are into fishing. Visit anytime except winter since it gets too cold and also it gets too wet and the popular 4WD tracks get closed down. There is a seasonal shut down of the 4WD tracks (normally from June to September) however this seems to depend on the weather and local conditions, therefore inform yourself locally before heading off. The area is best accessed from Taree to Gloucester from where the access is clearly indicated.

Offer - Mungo National Park 4WD destination

In the Willandra Lakes World Heritage area, Mungo NP is well known as the place of the first recorded human cremation about 40,000 years ago. Mungo National Park is situated in the NSW outback, 110kms from Mildura and 316kms from Broken Hill. If you travel through the Mildura area, don't miss out on Mungo National Park. It is best to visit in the cooler months of the year and rain usually falls in winter which makes spring and autumn perfect for your 4WD adventure to the area. There is a small entry fee to the park and there are local fire restrictions to be observed. Check for an update with the local authorities before heading off on your 4WD trip. Mungo NP has two camping areas, both with toilets, BBQ facilities and firewood - unless there is a fireban in place. Although there is rainwater collection tanks it is advisable to bring your own supplies. Not just water but also sufficient fuel as there is no refueling possiblity on this 4WD track. You should calculate to be self sufficient for at least 300km.Definitely the most fascinating natural feature of the park is the so called "Walls of China" which is a spectacular formation of eroded sand hills. There is plenty of wildlife to be seen along the 4WD trip and you will spot kangaroos and maybe emus and definitely plenty of pink cockatoos.

Offer - Murray Sunset NP - Border Track

The Murray Sunset National Park has many a great 4WD track to offer. The Border 4WD track runs mostly right along the Victorian and South Australian Border. The desert region is a great destination for 4WD enthusiasts and best visited in autumn and spring to avoid the soaring heat of the summer. Winter can get a bit cool but the 4WD conditions should be fine unless rain has set on the region. To get to the 4WD region turn off the Mallee Highway between Murrayville and Pinnaroo. As usual, lower your tyre pressure when 4W driving on sand - and there is plenty of sand on the Border Track. The track can be a bit tricky, sandy areas interrupted by clay soils - particularly if the weather gets wet. In places the track has become a bit overgrown, make sure you stay oriented and able to backtrack if necessary. Bring your recovery gear and if you can, don't 4WD alone. Bring your own supplies, particularly water as there is none available. And don't forget to bring your fishing gear. Take a break from your 4WD adventure to sit on the famous Murray River and wet a line. At the Northern End of the track, at Border Cliffs you can rent a houseboat and take off on the Murray for another adventure. There is no accommodation or supplies along the Border Track.

The Bald Rock National Park is accessible all year around unless there was an excessive downpour - check conditions before you set off on your 4WD excursion. Bald Rock National Park and the Boonoo Boonoo Falls are the major regional attraction and accessible from Tenterfield. The Boonoo Boonoo River winds its way through spectacular granite outcrops and eventually plunges over 200meters down into the valley below. You will find that the 4WD access roads are easily navigated and there is a few interesting 4WD turnoffs to explore in the area.Prepare to discover some of the excellent hiking trails, bring your boots and sunscreen. Bald Rock NP has camping facilities but Boonoo Boonoo Falls offers no camping, only BBQ and picnic facilities. Don't miss out on hiking to the top of Bald Rock - it is an effort but well worth the view. There is plenty of other hiking trails to explore in between your 4WD trips.
